Flowers were a common theme in Victorian art and they’re still popular. The following images hail from Victorian times through the mid-twentieth-century and have myriad uses: as clipart, logos, avatars, in advertising and just about anything else you can think of.

It’s summertime, so the flowers are in bloom. The vintage roses below, however, are always in bloom — even though most are decades old. When it comes to honoring a birthday, you can’t beat these vintage free printable birthday cards. (Scroll down to see the eight designs.) Not that there’s anything wrong with modern birthday card designs; they’re great. But sometimes it’s just nice to summon up the feeling of yesteryear.

These cards convey both an elegance and a sense of whimsy, which I’m sure will be appreciated by the recipients. And to make them even more special, try adding just a touch of glitter glue to embellish them. But don’t use a lot or the card stock might warp and the colors might run. You don’t need much to achieve a nice effect anyway. Just small dabs on highlighted areas can make a big difference. For example, you could put a little silver, white or clear iridescent glitter on the highlighted areas of the flowers or on the sails on the boat. You might also want to put clear or lightly colored glitter in little streaks on the clouds on the Flyer card or on the highlighted areas of the oranges in the Crown Jewel card. (I think you might want to leave Babe Ruth just as he is, though!)
