Free Vintage Kids Valentine Cards

I absolutely love these colorful vintage kids Valentine cards. They come from different eras but seem to be mostly from the mid-20th century.

Some of the expressions on these cards aren’t heard much these days. An example is the sock saying “‘Darn’ it.” People still say “darn it,” of course, just not in reference to sewing up holes in their socks. I’m sure many of the crafters who visit this site will know what darning is, but how many people actually darn their socks any more? Arcane references like that are part of what makes these cards charming. Also cute is the fact that the people who created these kids valentine cards had no fear of being corny, because the designs were aimed at children. So this is your opportunity to be as corny as you want this Valentine’s Day; just blame it on the art.

Free Vintage Valentine’s Day Cards: Romantic Couples

These free vintage Valentine’s Day cards feature what this February holiday is all about: romantic couples in various stages of Valentine’s Day love. There’s a gorgeous illustration of a couple in a paper moon, which is an image that used to be very popular but you hardly ever see today. There are also a few cartoon couples using nursery rhymes to deliver their Valentine messages. And there are quite a few that feature kissing, hugging, dancing and other chaste vintage acts of love, many among the flowers and hearts that are so iconic for Valentine’s Day. But you don’t have to restrict the use of these vintage cards to Valentine’s Day. Because of their romantic nature, some of these cards would even be useful for vintage wedding or bridal shower cards or favors.

Free Vintage Valentine’s Cards: Pretty Women

When preparing to post my vintage Valentine cards, I divided them into categories. It turned out I had so many Valentine cards with women on them, I made that a category. But when it came time to choose the cards that would actually go on the site, I decided I should use only pretty women. Love makes us all pretty, yes? Granted, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but in my opinion these vintage ladies are pretty. Some of the poetry is a little questionable, but what the heck. (See the poem on the card with the woman’s head coming out of the purple morning glory. I have no idea what it means.)

I have a theory that Victorian Valentines are so beautiful because Valentine’s Day is all about love — and love inspires. You’ll find many vintage images on this site, but in my opinion the Victorian Valentines are the most ornate and colorful. Free Valentine’s Day Cards: Love Coupons

Want to customize your certificate?

To change the clip art, use the Easy Art Finder in the left sidebar of this site to find the image you want. Click on the existing art within the document, and click the Delete key on your keyboard. Then, add a new text box and insert your clip art into it. (For help working with text boxes and inserting pictures, consult the help menu in your version of Word or Open Office.)

To change the font, simply highlight the text you want to change and choose a new font that’s already installed on your computer. Please note that the text is in text boxes, which can also be moved by dragging them with your mouse. If you accidentally move one when changing the text, just drag it with your mouse back to where you want it.

Free Valentine’s Day Cards for Kids

There’s no doubt that kids enjoy Valentines Day as much as grown-ups. And you can make their holiday experience even more special by helping them to create their own Valentines Day cards and decorate them.

Below are three sets of children’s Valentine’s Day cards that aren’t sold in stores. Two of the pages are full color, so they can be printed and used as-is, or they can be decorated. One of the sheets is black and white, which will allow your kids to color and embellish the cards, and add their own personal touches. Each of the three sheets contains six unique designs, for a total of 18 different cards.

Supplies you’ll need

Card stock or heavy paper (Try colored, textured or patterned stock to make the cards even more special.)
A printer
Scissors or a paper cutter
Crayons, markers, paint, glitter glue, rhinestones or anything else that will embellish cards
One or more of these documents:

Whimsical cards (full color)

Cartoon cards (full color)

Coloring cards (black and white)

NOTE: You might see gray lines in the card documents. These won’t print, so just ignore them.

Steps

Choose the set(s) of cards you want to download and save it/them to your computer.
Print the cards on 8-1/2″ x 11″ paper or card stock.
Fold the paper or card stock in half, horizontally. The resulting size will be 4-1/4″ x 11″.
Use a ruler to measure 3-5/8″ from the left side of the back of the folded paper. With a pencil, make two light marks on that spot, one on each edge of the paper. Do the same from the right side. This will tell you where to fold the paper so it will form six sections. (You might want to align the ruler with the dots and make pencil lines before you fold.) Once you have the paper folded, cut out the cards with scissors or a paper cutter.
Now your kids can let their imaginations run wild as they decorate each card to make a unique creation.

Valentines Day card tips

You can use regular paper, but it will make flimsier cards.
If you don’t have a color printer, you can still print the colored cards in black and white. If your kids use markers, glitter glue or anything else they can find to decorate them, no one will know the cards were supposed to be printed in color!
The cards can be mounted on colored card stock that’s slightly larger to give them a border effect. This would be especially effective when using scissors that cut in a pattern.
Use pinking shears or other scissors that cut patterns to make the edges of the cards more interesting.
