When I was a magazine art director about 100 years ago, we didn’t have electronic free clip art. That might seem incomprehensible to younger people, but we had to jump through all kinds of hoops just to get images onto the pages of a magazine. It involved X-Acto knives and sticky wax, which always seemed to be stuck to parts of me, instead of just to the back of the clip art.

I used to design a lot of small ads every month, many of which required some kind of artwork to make them stand out. That was when my love affair with clip art began. Many years later I created Vintage Holiday Crafts and started designing my own clip art because I couldn’t find the quality and type of clip art I wanted unless I paid for it. The same was true for scrapbook papers, which can cost a bundle if you buy them by the sheet at the craft store. I assumed other people had the same issues.

But now I’ve developed a new problem: I have a lot of free contemporary and vintage clip art and scrapbook images. My solution was to compile it into the Free Clip Art Sourcebook, which links to free clip art and scrapbooking image resources squirreled away all over my little online world. The images are categorized alphabetically by subject and located in one document, so everything is easy to find.

Free Vintage Thanksgiving Clip Art

I love Thanksgiving! Not only does the weather finally cool off down here in South Florida, but there’s just a lovely vibe to the holiday. With its focus on family, home and hearth — along with some football and a major parade — it’s a joy. This vintage Thanksgiving clip art reflects that feeling.

Speaking of a parade (how’s that for a segue?), my niece will be performing this Thanksgiving with the South Florida Special Needs Color Guard in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The color guard incorporates an inspiring group of developmentally disabled people of all ages. They usually get standing ovations when they perform because people are so blown away by what they’re able to accomplish. You can read more about them on my contemporary Thanksgiving clip art hub. Free Vintage Flowers Clip Art

Flowers were a common theme in Victorian art and they’re still popular. The following images hail from Victorian times through the mid-twentieth-century and have myriad uses: as clipart, logos, avatars, in advertising and just about anything else you can think of.

Free Vintage Angels and Cherubs Clip Art

Who doesn’t love angels and cherubs? These adorable vintage angels and cherubs are perfect for Christmas, Valentine’s Day, weddings, or any time you want to convey sweetness. They also go well with our vintage roses clip art.

There are all kinds of opinions about whether angels and cherubs really exist. But when it comes to their existence in vintage art, there is no question. Artists of old loved the subject of these little heavenly helpers. You can see evidence of that everywhere in ephemera that has been passed down through the generations, scanned and put online. We’re fortunate so many good examples have survived the passage of time, so we can bring them to you!

Free Patriotic Vintage July 4th Clip Art

These 4th of July clip art images are such beautiful examples of vintage July 4th art! Fireworks are featured in half of them, because what would the July 4th be without fireworks? Children are represented in most of them, as they frequently are in vintage art images. And what would the Fourth of July be without two of our most influential presidents, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln? They’re here, too, ready to help you celebrate the fourth of July.

Free Vintage Mother’s Day Clip Art

I’m not sure there’s such a thing as vintage Mother’s Day clip art created exclusively for Mother’s Day, at least not that I’ve seen. But much like vintage birthday cards for women, it’s pretty easy to find images that will fill the bill. So I’ve chosen an assortment of floral vintage clip art, as well as images of women (their hands at least) and children. I even embellished one piece of flower clip art with the words “Happy Mother’s Day,” in case you absolutely have to have clip art that is just for this holiday.

I chose each of these free vintage clip art images for a reason. I couldn’t resist the turquoise boot, although I’m sure the Victorian woman who had to wear boots like that probably had chronically sore feet. I chose the various hands because of their elegance and how they symbolize Mom’s loving care without even showing all of her. I picked the children due to the adorable factor and because a mom obviously wouldn’t be a mom without children. And last but not least, I chose the flowers just because the colors make me happy.

I hope you’ll find a few favorites among these images and that you (and your mom) enjoy them in good health!
